Where is your place of refuge? Every one of us has to have a place of safety, calm, stability. But what is concerning is how few we make use of it. Or rather — Him.

God is our refuge.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18

Psalm 91

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.

Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

Double-Mindedness

Definition: wavering in mind (Merriam-Webster’s definition).

The term double-minded comes from the Greek word dipsuchos, meaning “a person with two minds or souls.” It’s interesting that this word appears only in the book of James (James 1:8; 4:8). Bible scholars conclude that James might have coined this word. To grasp the full meaning of this word, it is best to understand how it is used within its context. (Read more at GotQuestions.org)

Repeating the Same Sins

Does God keep forgiving us for repeating the same sins over and over as long as we ask forgiveness for it?

To best answer this question, we’re going to look at two powerful passages of Scripture. The first is found in the book of Psalms: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). One of the most effective tricks Satan plays on Christians is… (Read more at GotQuestions.org)

Apathy

When you just feel nothing.

Spiritual apathy, coldness, or indifference can affect even the most sincere Christian at one time or another. Human emotions being as fickle as they are, feelings of apathy or disinterest can sometimes replace the fervor we once felt for the things of God. Overcoming such apathy is necessary for continuing our walk with God.

The one who realizes he is spiritually apathetic needs to, first of all, make sure he is a true believer in Jesus Christ (see 1 John 5:13; Romans 8:16). If he knows that he is a true believer in Christ, he needs to then ask himself this question: “What caused me to lose my love and passion for the Lord?”

One cause of spiritual apathy is… (Read more at GotQuestions.org)

This episode stems from a conversation I had with a guy who I consider a mentor of all things web & social media. We were talking about some online marketing stuff and he was telling me that he wasn’t sure how some of this past methods were working with today’s advances in mobile technology and if certain services were unnecessary anymore.

Basically, there was this theme that kept coming up of “am I or my services even relevant anymore?”

It was interesting because he never verbalized it this way, but there were a few other points in discussion that confirmed this query.

I wonder how many people are out there wondering the same thing about their life, “Am I really relevant anymore?”

“What’s the point of this, anyway?”

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

What does it mean to be a Christian?

  1. Recognize things that do not change in life.
  2. Identify things you can change.
  3. Change your attitude of God instead of waiting for Him to change His toward you. We do this by understanding His Word.

Olivia shares her story battling depression and even talking about her struggle with suicidal thoughts on an episode of HopeNet Radio. Because of time constraints, we were only able to share part of her story on Episode #157 of the HopeNet Radio Podcast. But the entire conversation with her was remarkable that we thought you should have the chance to hear it, too.

If you or anyone you know struggles with depression or thoughts of suicide, please reach out for help. You matter. Suicide doesn’t end the pain; it only transfers it to the ones who love you, which are many more than you might think or believe at this moment.

Jeff and Dave continue the Initiate series this week. This is all about looking at the building blocks of the Christian faith. It might seem odd to think about how you and I learn things. But check this out. We all learn differently. Our minds are so wonderfully made to absorb a vast amount of information. How we learn and what we learn about God matters in this faith journey. You might have even learned some things that were untrue about God and are working through unlearning them. Listen and share your thoughts.

Initiate.

cause (a process or action) to begin. a person who has been initiated into an organization or activity, typically recently.

Empty the Cup

One of the best ways to uncover what we don’t know is by asking questions. Great teachers do this so that they can teach the student something new. Today’s generation of young people are surrounded by noise and it is becoming increasingly difficult to process the information we receive. And the more points of information we open ourselves up to (ie. Internet, TV, movies, peers, social media and apps, smartphones, etc), the harder it is to hear the truth.

How can we resolve this before we all go crazy?

Ways We Learn

Read Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, which is a broader understanding of the primary learning types (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile – VAKT).

Which one do you primarily learn by?

When you study the Bible, use methods that work to your learning strength. If you’re stuck in a rut with your studies, change it up a bit. Try a different method.
