Tonight on HopeNet Radio, Jeff & Dave read your “Dear Me” letters and share their own. Plus, we’re opening up the conversation that will continue into next week about where all the good men have gone. Good men are hard to come by today. It seems every man is falling to pornography and addictions of all kinds. Many are hesitant to lead and are withdrawn from the family life. Something has to change. What does it mean to be a good man today? It’s time for our men to “man up” and realize our God-given responsibilities. Plus your emails, comments & tweets!

Well, it’s official. We’ve completed our first month of shows on HopeNet Radio. That being said, we’re far from done. There is so much more in store and we’ve only begun to peel away the layers and the lies that are out there telling young people that their life is insignificant and meaningless. This world desperately needs to know the hope God brings and our hope is to help you help others find hope!

Tonight on HopeNet Radio: Are guys today prolonging adulthood too much? When does a person grow out of adolescence? Is there a certain age or is it different for everybody? Dave & Jeff address these topics and are joined by Andrew Schwab of Project 86. Plus, your emails, tweets, and comments!

Show Notes

Did you ever think, when you were a child, what fun it would be if your toys could come to life? Well suppose you could really have brought them to life. Imagine turning a tin soldier into a real little man. It would involve turning the tin into flesh. And suppose the tin soldier did not like it. He is not interested in flesh; all he sees is that the tin is being spoilt. He thinks you are killing him. He will do everything he can to prevent you. He will not be made into a man if he can help it. What you have done about that tin soldier I do not know. But what God did about us was this: The Second Person in God, the Son, became human Himself… And because the whole difficulty for us is that the natural life has to be, in a sense, “killed,” He chose an earthly career which involved the killing of His human desires at every turn – poverty, misunderstanding from His own family, betrayal by one of His intimate friends, being jeered at and manhandled by the police, and execution by torture. And then, after being thus killed – killed every day in a sense – the human creature in Him, because it was united to the divine Son, came to life again. The Man in Christ rose again: not only the God. That is the whole point, for the first time we saw a real man. One tin soldier – real tin, just like the rest had come fully and splendidly alive.

Students from across the world joined together in the largest student-led prayer movement, See You At The Pole, this week. Did you go to your flagpole? Report in!

Today’s world is confusing. What does it mean to live life to the fullest? This Sunday on HopeNet Radio, Jeff & Dave are talking about how we live life to the fullest and what that really means. The world has so many different ideas, often using methods that inflate or numb our present realities (ie drugs, alcohol, etc). But maybe there’s a better way that doesn’t lead to a world of hurt, isolation and hopelessness. In the Bible, Jonah had a much different picture of what his life should look like. Yet, he found out the hard way that he couldn’t outrun God. Perhaps we were meant to live with abandon.

Show Notes

Tonight’s Questions & Topics:

“Is kissing a sin?”

Dave’s take: Not if it’s in the right context. We’re wired a certain way. We need to understand the way we’re wired. In a dating relationship you can be alone, but be alone in public.

Kyle’s take: No. We need to put up guardrails. Put yourself in situations where you won’t be tempted to compromise.

Jeff on guardrails: Nothing good happens after midnight. Remember to HALT if you’re Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.

“What about the child in the Middle East, the Muslim? How could a just, loving God send that child to hell?”

Dave’s take: When you start thinking about someone in another culture, realize that the belief system they have isn’t right or wrong. It’s just a belief system. Over time, you’ll be able to see if it’s right or wrong. What is truth?

Jeff’s take: We’re assuming that a faith like that of the Muslim could be false. It does beg the question of what truth is. However, knowing if we’re convinced that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, that child should motivate all Christians to share the Gospel of Jesus.

Why does it seem like it’s so hard to hear from God?

The Sabbath. We are to keep the Sabbath holy; this is a Commandment from God. Exactly what day did God reserve for us to keep? Is Sunday correct, or is it truly Saturday? Then, if the Sabbath were to be kept on Saturday, why is every church congregation held on Sunday? Additionally, who then, changed the day of the Sabbath, if Saturday was truly the day of the Sabbath?

Todd’s take: Having a day of rest during the week is important, but we don’t need to get hung up on what day it is.

Dave’s take: I like theology, but I hate arguing. Christianity is all about relationships, it is not about arrangements. Those who make arrangements with God do not understand what Christianity is or what the love of God is all about.

Jeff’s take: The sabbath and church services are a little separate. The Sunday worship services are meant to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and not as an activity on the Sabbath. I’m not legalistic on what day the Sabbath should be as I don’t believe it’s an essential to salvation.

How do I parent a lying preteen?

Dave: Welcome to a new season in life. You’re not alone! Secondly, check your heart. Do you care about them more than their offense? There must be consequences for their actions, but we also must help our kids know that we love them for who they are, not what they do.

#007: Dear Me Letters

Dear Me

dearme_644

Alright guys and gals! Dave and I have this idea that we hope you’ll help us out with for an upcoming episode of HopeNet Radio. It’s called the Dear Me letter project. Simply, write a letter to yourself (or your BFF) from the heart. It could be made up of funny memories, best pieces of advice people have told you or just stuff you wish people said more often to you. The letter can be as long or as short as you want it to be.

This is more than a show. I believe words are powerful and can be the different between life and death. Your letters are more than words on paper. They bring life and encouragement.

Want to submit a letter? Your letter can be anonymous if you put anonymous in the subject line. If we read your letter on air, we’ll enter you into a drawing from the Q90 FM Prize Bin! Please share this article with your friends and have them send a letter as well.

Please submit letters by October 2nd!

To submit your Dear Me letter, email it to us! (Preferably MS Word or PDF)
