Over the last few weeks, there have been some shocking headlines involving young people who have allowed their destructive thoughts to bleed into destructive actions. Jeff & DW share their thoughts on the tragic story out of Isla Vista, Calif. involving Elliot Rodger and how we can reach out to young people who believe their life is hopeless. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families who were affected by this unspeakable tragedy.

Moral relativism
“Instead of teaching young people how to shoot an arrow at a target, we’re teaching them to shoot an arrow and paint the arrow into the bullseye. This is a perfect picture of moral relativism today.” Jeff
Should & Must
“There are two paths in life: Should and Must. We arrive at this crossroads over and over again. And each time, we get to choose.
Should is how others want us to show up in the world — how we’re supposed to think, what we ought to say, what we should or shouldn’t do. It’s the vast array of expectations that others layer upon us. When we choose Should the journey is smooth, the risk is small.
Must is different—there aren’t options and we don’t have a choice.
Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest, most authentic self. It’s our instincts, our cravings and longings, the things and places and ideas we burn for, the intuition that swells up from somewhere deep inside of us. Must is what happens when we stop conforming to other people’s ideals and start connecting to our own. Because when we choose Must, we are no longer looking for inspiration out there. Instead, we are listening to our calling from within, from some luminous, mysterious place.” Read more.

Kristen Jane Anderson is back on the show tonight! Her book, Life In Spite of Me, and bio are available on her website. Tonight’s show is continuing our discussion from last week on living with intentionality. Living with intentionality is all about knowing and living out your purpose. If you have no purpose and no goals, life becomes monotonous, mediocre, boring, dull and we become apathetic to the world around us. We were not created for that kind of life!
In the 2nd half of the show, Bill Van Kirk joins us to share about Ultimate Frisbee Nights. Bill is the youth pastor at Spring Lake Church in Green Bay. He also chimes in and shares his perspective on living with intentionality.

Does a big mistake thwart God’s plan for our lives? We have a tendency to feel that “if only I would’ve/wouldn’t have__________, God would still be able to use me.” Is this really true? How can I know if I’m really God’s “Plan A?”

Anger is an emotional response related to one’s psychological interpretation of having been threatened. Often it indicates when one’s basic boundaries are violated. Some have a learned tendency to react to anger through retaliation. Anger may be utilized effectively when utilized to set boundaries or escape from dangerous situations. (Thanks, Wikipedia.)
It’s normal to be angry, just not all the time. If you find yourself being angry a lot of the time, it’s time to talk. Chat with a coach.
Stuff Jeff & Dave talk about:
Is it wrong to be angry? Is it wrong to feel justified in your anger? What are appropriate ways to display anger?
When do you get angry? What if I’m angry all the time?
When anger becomes destructive.
Passive & Aggressive expressions of anger don’t work
Being assertive.
Does prayer help with anger?
