#052: Break My Pride

#052: Break My Pride

C.S. Lewis reminds us in Mere Christianity, that pride is the essential vice, the utmost evil… Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.”

Pride gets us into trouble. Self-centeredness, jealousy/envy, strife seems to be everywhere. Our world can’t survive with millions of prideful, arrogant people. Instead, we have to learn how to love selflessly and to be humble. That can only be accomplished by recognizing my need for salvation.

#051: Some Things Don’t Change

#051: Some Things Don’t Change

Life is so full of temporary things. That’s why when we hope in things that are of this world, the hope only lasts for a short time. As we watch the news and see things like ISIS and other man-hating groups out there, it can be easy to give up hope. Tonight on the show, Jeff, DW, Jason and Terra Kay discuss how we can have an unending hope.

Feels good being back after a month break from the show. We’ve missed you guys! It’s the start of year 2. Below are some items of conversation during the show.

Officially welcome Jason Kemper to HopeNet Radio this year! Jason is the Program Director at Silver Birch Ranch. Once in a while, you’ll hear the Irish bleed out when he’s talking. Jason spent a few years as a missionary in Northern Ireland. We think you’ll like him as much as we do.

Terra Kay is back with us on the show tonight. And it’s the first show with us as the Outreach Director of Damascus Road, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the evil of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Learn more.

Purpose

What’s your purpose in life? Have you found it? Have you defined it? What are you living your life for? Your life has purpose.

“The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.”

God made everything intentionally. He made you with purpose.

“When people’s lives please the lord , even their enemies are at peace with them.”

Passion

Passion is defined as “a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something…” or “intense, driving, or overmastering feeling of conviction.” What gets you amped up? God has wired you a certain way with gifts and talents.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

Position

This isn’t what office your title you hold. This is about what direction and positioning you have your feet pointed and planted. Success is often determined by how we set our feet. When we get out of position, we get beat. We get knocked down. But if your feet are set properly in the right direction, you have a greater chance at success.

“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”

Perseverance

Perseverance is a tough word to chew. Its purpose is for the moments where you just want to throw in the towel.

“The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life.”

I Wish My Parents Knew… by Kristen Jane Anderson

1. I also wish they had known more about depression, how common it can be, as well as the triggers, the signs, and how easy it is to fall into a depression.

2. That what I needed more than anything was a growing, thriving, relationship with the God who made me.

3. That the youth group they’d brought me to was only a place to have fun and I needed so much more.

4. That I had been raped.

5. That I could hardly understand what I was feeling, or how to put it into words and that asking me questions might have been helpful.

6. That even though they’d taken me to a Christian Counselor she never gave me any spiritual direction or encouragement.

7. That I didn’t really like drinking, sneaking out, smoking and doing all the things I wasn’t supposed to be doing.

8. That one of the reasons I didn’t talk to them more was because I was afraid of punishments, especially with my friends because they’re what were keeping me holding on.

9. That I wanted to make them proud, not worry them.

10. That I was trying to protect them too.

11. That being in school basically complicated my issues. I think it would have helped me if I would have been taken out and put in an intense counseling program.

12. That our family needed to be centered on Christ.

13. That the church we were in was dead and that God wanted so much more for all of us.

14. I also wish they had known the power of God, the Bible, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

15. That I needed someone who knew God pouring into me.
