Tonight’s Questions & Topics:
“Is kissing a sin?”
Dave’s take: Not if it’s in the right context. We’re wired a certain way. We need to understand the way we’re wired. In a dating relationship you can be alone, but be alone in public.
Kyle’s take: No. We need to put up guardrails. Put yourself in situations where you won’t be tempted to compromise.
Jeff on guardrails: Nothing good happens after midnight. Remember to HALT if you’re Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.
“What about the child in the Middle East, the Muslim? How could a just, loving God send that child to hell?”
Dave’s take: When you start thinking about someone in another culture, realize that the belief system they have isn’t right or wrong. It’s just a belief system. Over time, you’ll be able to see if it’s right or wrong. What is truth?
Jeff’s take: We’re assuming that a faith like that of the Muslim could be false. It does beg the question of what truth is. However, knowing if we’re convinced that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, that child should motivate all Christians to share the Gospel of Jesus.
Why does it seem like it’s so hard to hear from God?
The Sabbath. We are to keep the Sabbath holy; this is a Commandment from God. Exactly what day did God reserve for us to keep? Is Sunday correct, or is it truly Saturday? Then, if the Sabbath were to be kept on Saturday, why is every church congregation held on Sunday? Additionally, who then, changed the day of the Sabbath, if Saturday was truly the day of the Sabbath?
Todd’s take: Having a day of rest during the week is important, but we don’t need to get hung up on what day it is.
Dave’s take: I like theology, but I hate arguing. Christianity is all about relationships, it is not about arrangements. Those who make arrangements with God do not understand what Christianity is or what the love of God is all about.
Jeff’s take: The sabbath and church services are a little separate. The Sunday worship services are meant to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and not as an activity on the Sabbath. I’m not legalistic on what day the Sabbath should be as I don’t believe it’s an essential to salvation.
How do I parent a lying preteen?
Dave: Welcome to a new season in life. You’re not alone! Secondly, check your heart. Do you care about them more than their offense? There must be consequences for their actions, but we also must help our kids know that we love them for who they are, not what they do.
